A Pig's Tale: Hog Named Six Seven Spared by Miami-Dade Mayor.
While perhaps not at the same level as granting clemency to Thanksgiving turkeys, but the Miami-Dade County mayor experienced a presidential-style act this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. Clemency is justified for her. Her criminal record is spotless,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with clear references to the extraordinary and sizable number of pardons issued from the start of the beginning of a current administration.
“Unless you count eating six or seven apples per day,” the mayor added. “Let this swine have a prosperous future free from concern.”
The event, which both honors and questions the local cultural practice of feasting on pork during the holidays, was founded to emulate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The pig, donated by a first responder, was given its name from the current slang trend of young people yelling “6-7” – originating from a rap song lyric – often without clear purpose. The craze became so widespread that a major dictionary recently named “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.
A Peaceful Retirement
Six Seven the pig is now set to enjoy its days at a countryside refuge “away from grills and cookware”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“The annual pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to kick off the end-of-year celebrations,” said Eric Castellanos, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It represents the character of Miami: joyful, multicultural, and based in heritage that foster togetherness. Annually, we are proud to celebrate heritage and mercy in a way only Miami can.”
Participants enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach croquetas and cafecito as they toasted the pig's pardon.
