Jurgen Klopp admits a return to lead Liverpool is plausible in theory.
The German coach, who stepped down from Anfield in 2024, has suggested that returning someday remains an option. The 58-year-old, post a game-changing nine-season tenure featuring Champions League success and the Premier League crown since 1990, currently occupies positions overseeing worldwide football for Red Bull and as an advisor to Germany's league body.
Supporters’ Hopes and Klopp’s Candid Remarks
Liverpool won England's top flight under Arne Slot, though countless followers who adore the manager would welcome the notion of his potential comeback. Speaking candidly, he explained to Steven Bartlett: “I said I won't manage any other side in England. Which implies should it be the Reds...absolutely. It's plausible.”
“Being 58, which suggests I might decide down the line, who knows. Is a decision required immediately? If so, I wouldn't return. But thank God, no such pressure exists. I'll wait and observe what the future brings.”
Conditions for a Comeback
Questioned regarding the specific conditions would need to occur to draw him back to management, Klopp admitted he was not instantly drawn for a comeback. “I don’t even know exactly, My present work fulfills me,” he commented. “I don't crave being a coach; I don’t miss standing in the rain for two-and-a-half or three hours; I don’t miss going to press conferences four times, three times a week or having 10-12 interviews a week.
“The locker room isn't missed in that context, however, dining out with the players enjoying conversation, that’s nice. We won a lot of games meaning regularly positive atmosphere in the building. I can still hear Virgil [Van Dijk’s] laugh ringing in my ears to illustrate.”
Commending Arne Slot
Klopp was full of praise for his successor, praising him due to the changes that won the league last term. The team has suffered four in a row in all competitions post heavy investment, but he rubbished the idea of it representing the start of a downward turn.
“[Liverpool have] a phenomenal forward such as Wirtz, doubters will be silenced if spoken against. A remarkable prospect. Ekitike, incredible player. They have a strong balanced team. Fans shouldn't fret regarding the Reds, things will improve.”
Emotional Tribute for Diogo Jota
He shared movingly regarding the passing of Jota, a 2020 acquisition in 2020, and the effect on Liverpool. The forward died tragically in a road accident together with his sibling this past summer.
“Who can fill the void of such an individual? This isn't just regarding his on-field talent, his personality mattered. It's hard to picture the dressing room absent his presence. I find it difficult to discuss regarding this. It was an incredible shock for the entire squad as well. No one within the club might employ it to justify results though it's a fact. Entering the changing area where his spirit remains. Handling this individually is not easy. Overwhelming.”
