Pat Bamford Signs With the Blades After Leading Derogatory Songs Targeting Manager Wilder
Patrick Bamford has signed with the Championship side just half a year following leading insulting chants directed at their manager, Chris Wilder.
The 32-year-old forward, without a club after departing from Leeds United, has signed a contract joining the second-tier club in difficulty until January. His seven-year spell at Elland Road concluded by mutual consent this past summer.
Among Bamford’s last memorable actions while at Leeds was to lead abusive songs regarding Chris Wilder during the club’s promotion party in April. Now, the former England international will feature under Wilder as Sheffield United's boss seeks to pull the team he loves away from the bottom places.
Past History Between Bamford & Wilder
The pair had history prior to Leeds moved up back to the top flight the previous campaign while Sheffield United lost the promotion decider to Sunderland. The manager called Bamford as a "muppet" back when the roles were reversed in 2018-19 and Sheffield United won automatic promotion while Leeds fell short in the playoffs.
Reconciliation & Moving Forward
Everything appears has been put behind them with United, the Championship’s least productive attack, urgently requiring of improvement in attack while Bamford looking to resurrect his career.
The Wilder chant gained traction in April. A repentant Patrick along with Leeds boss, Farke, called the Sheffield United manager the following day.
Wilder said at the time: “Spoke with Patrick recently and I have no issue at all with it. I’m not sure regarding the words used from a fellow pro! But I valued and respected him giving me a call.
“We had a short while and the same again I talked with Daniel too and we had a longer discussion with him and he is a super guy, a class act. When I was playing we would dish it out and accept it and that’s an integral part of the game at every level, including Sunday league. I have absolutely no issue. I'm fine with the situation and I said that to Pat.”
