Slot Maintains He Feels Secure and Retains Liverpool's Support Following PSV Eindhoven Humiliation
Arne Slot conceded that it's expected for doubts to be raised about his position following a further convincing loss versus the Dutch champions.
The Reds suffered their 9th defeat in 12 matches, marking the club's poorest run since being demoted in 1953-54.
They were outplayed by the Dutch league champions on a difficult evening at their home ground.
“I'm confident, things are alright, I have got plenty of backing from the top,” the coach commented.
“It would be great to reverse this trend and earn three points naturally but when you're in a managerial role and not doing well then it's typical that questions are asked.”
He continued, “I'm comfortable with my role. This isn't the first time I've found myself in a tough spot but it's crucial that we turned it around.”
Talks with Liverpool Hierarchy
When asked to expand on his discussions with the team officials, the head coach explained:
“We talk a lot. They assist for the squad and to me and we have those conversations but they don’t call me constantly of the day to say they back me.”
He further stated, “In the normal discussions I feel the belief. But I haven’t spoken to them since this match so far so let’s see.”
Persistent Issues and Squad Response
The manager lamented recurring shortcomings from his squad in their European loss, namely poor finishing and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more direct in his assessment of the club’s predicament.
“I haven't got the solutions. Honestly, I don’t. I’m saying that to all,” the midfielder remarked.
“It is unacceptable. I don’t even have to wait to reflect. I’m past feeling anger inside. I've reached the stage currently where I simply lack the vocabulary.”
He added, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the club I love. I support them, and I've watched Liverpool since I was young.”
“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Reds side going through a spell of this nature with outcomes like these.”
He stated, “However we still have the emblem on our shirts. And as long as that badge is removed, we'll continue to fight.”
“We will attempt to get this team back to where it needs to be, demonstrate to all once more what this club is about and the reason it's called the best team in the planet.”
“However currently, we’re in the shit and it needs to change.”
