A Patriotic Colour Scheme and Iconic Symbol

The new branding showcases a Union Flag-inspired colour scheme to represent the UK flag and will be applied on rolling stock, at stations, and across its website and app.

Notably, the logo is the iconic double-arrow logo currently used by the national rail network and first created in the mid-20th century for the former state operator.

A Introduction Strategy

The phased introduction of the design, which was developed in-house, is expected to take place over time.

Passengers are expected to start seeing the newly-branded services throughout the network from the coming spring.

Throughout the month of December, the visuals will be displayed at prominent railway stations, such as Birmingham New Street.

A Path to Public Ownership

The proposed law, which will pave the way the creation of GBR, is presently progressing through the House of Commons.

The government has said it is renationalising the railways so the service is "run by the public, working for the passengers, not for profit."

GBR will unify the running of passenger trains and infrastructure under a unified structure.

The government has claimed it will merge 17 different bodies and "cut through the frustrating bureaucracy and lack of accountability that hinders the railways."

Digital Features and Existing Public Control

The launch of Great British Railways will also involve a comprehensive app, which will enable customers to check train times and purchase journeys free from additional fees.

Passengers with disabilities travellers will also be have the option to use the app to request support.

Several train companies had already been nationalised under the former administration, including Northern.

There are currently seven operating companies now in state ownership, representing about a one-third of passenger trips.

In the last twelve months, South Western Railway have been brought into public ownership, with further franchises likely to follow in the coming years.

Official and Industry Comments

"This isn't just a paint job," commented the Transport Secretary. It signifies "a fresh start, shedding the problems of the previous system and focused entirely on offering a reliable passenger-focused service."

Industry leaders have responded positively to the government's commitment to bettering services.

"The industry will continue to work closely with all stakeholders to support a seamless handover to GBR," a senior figure noted.
